Your Roadmap to Get Started

Before you can start working, there are a few important things you need to do. This guide will walk you through each step.

You will receive an email from DocuSign with a packet titled: Short-Term New Hire Packet.

Open the packet and look for the Pre-Employment Checklist. It will be the second document in your packet.

Your checklist will tell you which documents you must attach before submitting your paperwork.

Inside your packet, you will find:

  • Pre-Employment Checklist: Instructions and a place to attach your required documents.
  • Employment Forms: Additional forms you must complete before you can start working.

You must provide proof of a TB test or TB clearance completed within the last 4 years.

If your most recent TB test or clearance was more than 4 years ago, you must get a new one before beginning employment.

Option A: Contact your Doctor

Call your doctor's office to schedule a TB test or ask about getting a TB clearance.

Option B: Contact Student Health Services

Your campus Student Health Services office can help you schedule a TB test or complete a TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire.

Once you receive your TB results or clearance, save a copy. You will need to attach it to your DocuSign packet.

Live Scan is a fingerprint background check. Your fingerprints are sent electronically to the Department of Justice (DOJ) so the District can complete its required background screening.

Live Scan services are available at West Valley College only, by appointment.

Good news – it's free for currently enrolled students.

Step 1: Schedule Your Appointment

Contact Live Scan Office

Step 2: Get Ready for Your Appointment

Bring these items with you:

  • Your DocuSign new hire packet (you can show it on your phone)
  • A government-issued ID or student ID, as accepted by the Live Scan office
  • Your Social Security Number

Visit the District's Live Scan webpage for the location, hours, and additional instructions.

Important: Make sure you complete your Live Scan before submitting your DocuSign packet.

Before you can work, federal law requires the District to verify your identity and authorization to work in the United States.

This process is called Employment Eligibility Verification, or Form I-9.
