Program Purpose and Scope

The Student Employment Program provides eligible students with meaningful employment opportunities that complement their educational experience while supporting the instructional, administrative, and operational needs of West Valley-Mission Community College District.

The program is intended to:

  • Promote student success and retention through on-campus employment.
  • Provide students with practical work experience that develops transferable professional skills.
  • Support departmental operations while maintaining compliance with federal and California employment laws.
  • Ensure equitable, consistent, and transparent employment practices across the District.
  • Establish standardized procedures for hiring, supervising, compensating, and separating student employees.

Student employment is secondary to the student's primary educational objective. Academic success shall remain the student's first priority.

Student employees may not be used to replace classified employees or perform work that is covered by an existing classified position.
