$11,189.25 - $14,989.58 monthly (Supervisor's Salary Schedule, Range 34)

Anticipated hiring step $11,748.75 - $12,943.75 (Step A-C) (5% salary increase July 1, 2025).

The Police Sergeant is a sworn supervisory position, whose primary responsibility is to lead, supervise, train, and evaluate line-level police officers on a variety of shifts and assignments. This position also works closely with other supervisory personnel within the Health and Public Safety Division. The Police Sergeant receives general supervision from the Police Captain.

  • Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university. Major course work in Public Administration, Administration of Justice, related field is preferred; and
  • Experience: Minimum of four years of increasingly responsible experience as a peace officer, including one year providing technical and functional supervision over assigned staff.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Advanced Certificate. A valid POST certification must be maintained during employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current, valid First Aid/CPR certification.
