Biography
Born and raised in California, Trustee Diane Lamkin has dedicated her professional life to teaching. Teaching has always been her first love and she is dedicated to improving students’ classroom experience.
After earning a B.S. in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine, and a Ph.D. in physiology (emphasis in neuroscience) from the University of California, Berkeley, she taught in the basic sciences division at Palmer College of Chiropractic–West. She then taught for more than 30 years in the biological sciences department at Mission College, including courses on human anatomy, human physiology, and human heredity. Most of her Mission students went on to careers in healthcare.
While at Mission, Trustee Lamkin served on numerous committees, including faculty hiring committees and the curriculum committee. She was also treasurer of the faculty union executive board for four years.
Trustee Lamkin has lived in the South Bay (Cupertino, San Jose, Campbell) since 1982. Her three children attended West Valley, Mission, and De Anza colleges, and graduated from UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, and San Jose State University. She enjoys traveling, and has been/is a scuba diver, sailor, AYSO referee, Kaiser volunteer, and community band participant. Her latest joy is being a grandmother of four.
