Chris Dyer

Mr. Dyer oversees the district’s inaugural Educational Services office, with a focus on strengthening collaboration and coordination between the colleges and district services across a two-college district serving approximately 30,000 students annually. His work emphasizes a unified service approach that promotes consistency, maximizes resources, and enhances student support while preserving each college’s unique identity. He is committed to data-informed decision-making and student-centered institutional design, with a leadership focus on aligning systems, policy, and practice to improve student outcomes. His responsibilities include facilitating the development and revision of board policies and administrative procedures, leading districtwide enrollment management efforts, and advancing technological innovation, including Coursedog and emerging AI solutions, to better serve students and employees.

Mr. Dyer began his career in higher education at CSU Northridge in 2005, supporting underrepresented high school students in the San Fernando Valley and fostering their interest in STEM fields. He later served as a part-time mathematics faculty member at Cabrillo College, Monterey Peninsula College, and Hartnell College, and worked in the Math Learning Center at Monterey Peninsula College.

He joined West Valley College in 2010 as a tenured faculty member, where he taught across the mathematics curriculum and served as department chair for four years. During this time, he was actively involved in curriculum development, articulation, student placement reform, textbook affordability initiatives, and the advancement of accelerated pathways for students.

In 2018, Mr. Dyer was appointed Vice Provost of Academic Affairs at West Valley College. In this role, he led efforts to modernize and formalize academic and operational practices, with oversight of curriculum, articulation, enrollment management, academic technology, and student support services. He played a key role in implementing the college’s e-catalog, program pathway mapping, and Simple Syllabus, among other initiatives.

Mr. Dyer has led major institutional efforts in curriculum and policy implementation, including the transition to the Cal-GETC general education pattern (AB 928), implementation of AB 1705 through the development of an enhanced districtwide guided self-placement tool, and preparation for Common Course Numbering (AB 1111). He has supported the development of numerous degrees and certificates, strengthened course articulation—including with high school partners—and expanded the use of labor market data and advisory boards to inform program design.

He founded the college’s Dual Enrollment Program, initially partnering with Campbell Union High School District and later expanding to additional local districts, now serving approximately 1,000 enrollments annually. He also established the School of Continuing Education to support noncredit programs in ESL, citizenship, workforce preparation, and career technical education, including collaborations with the South Bay Consortium for Adult Education (SBCAE). In addition, he launched the college’s Senior Guided Pathways program in collaboration with Successful Aging Solutions and Community Consulting (SASCC), expanding access for adults ages 50 and older. Collectively, these initiatives have broadened access to higher education for historically underserved populations and now account for nearly 20% of the college’s enrollment.

Mr. Dyer holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Physics, a Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics, and a certificate in Culinary Arts. He resides in Santa Cruz with his family.
