Saratoga residents should not be alarmed if they see CHP or CalStar helicopters
landing on the West Valley campus, injured residents roaming select
neighborhoods, and the gymnasium at Saratoga high school being transformed into
a temporary Red Cross shelter on Saturday, April 24. It’s all part of a mock
major disaster exercise for Saratoga’s Community Emergency Response Team
(C.E.R.T.).
Training will include how to fight fires, search and rescue, medical triage and
treatment, and building damage assessment. Around 2:30 p.m. California Highway
Patrol and California Shock Trauma Air Rescue will land on campus to train rescuers
on how to utilize them safely during emergencies and disasters.
Participants will include recent graduates from the West Valley-Mission
Community College District C.E.R.T. program, volunteers from the city of
Saratoga, the American Red Cross, the boy scouts and the Saratoga Amateur Radio
Association.
